for the people who had had treatment for social anxiety disorder, how has it helped you now?
It has helped me AMAZINGLY. I can’t even begin to describe how much it has helped me…. In school, I would sit in the corner and all someone would have to do was say "hi" and my face would get so red, I’d have sweaty palms and start shaking. I never talked. I knew that I should see a doctor but was afraid of even going in to see one! But the more I thought about it, when you’re going in for something like that, the doctor has seen the symptoms (some much worse) and is expecting your symptoms. I got on Zoloft (probably the best thing ever.) It took almost up to a year to get my dosage perfect, but once I got the right dosage I completely came out of my shell. Nowadays, I lead prayer in church, I get on stage and sing in lots of talent shows and competitions, and I can’t go anywhere without talking to someone. I went to counseling which helped also. And most of all, I prayed a lot about it and God helped me through. With the combination of meds, counseling, and God, I am who I am today.

Social anxiety can cause these feelings, which can also lead to severe depression,
http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/ds...
There is hope; I’ve been there, and still am there, it is a long, hard struggle. I recommend
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b... worked best for me, with mild anti-anxiety meds. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I’ve tried individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.
Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.
Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.
The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/au... and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.
I recommend a mild anti-anxiety med, and a beta-blocker (it will reduce shaking and tremors enormously, but only use in extreme situations) in addition to CBT therapy.
Any questions, let me know … I can’t tell you how much this has improved my life!

i get treatment for my anxiety issues"mostly social". i go
to classes or groups that offer information or suggest
alternative communication skills.in theory if you use these
tools to help better cope with anxiety then it can hep, but
in practice it doesn’t always work.
