Social Anxiety Medication?
Ever since I was just a little kid, I’ve always been the shy one. I would have my mother tell the waiter what I wanted to eat at restaurants until I was about 12. I would make someone other than myself call someone when I need to know things, sometimes I do that today, too. Nowadays, I’m always awkward around people other than my friends. I’m so much involved with thinking about acting right that I can’t start up a good conversation, and can’t respond to topics appropriately. I’ve come to the conclusion that I have social anxiety disorder. Recently, researching online about possible ways to overcome this problem has been a daily routine. And I’ve tried everything that those articles tell me to do. But they don’t seem to work. I’m only fifteen years old. The word medication has begun screaming inside my head, so, I was wondering if there’s any social anxiety medication that someone my age could take, being safe.
Thanks in advance.
There are a number of medications that can help social phobia–beta blockers-benzodiazepine derivative, ssri’s and snri’s–but the chances are very slim that a doctor is going to give you these drugs. Not to be jerks though, all of these drugs have serious side effects that have to be considered before they can give them to you. You probably stand the best chance of getting an ssri or snri but the fact that you are 15 would rule that out for most doctors as a possibly because these drugs are known to increase suicidal thoughts and behaviors. There are doctors who will take that risk though.

I have social anxiety myself; and my therapist suggested I take Effexor 75 mg. I take 3 tablets cause lower dosage doesn’t work for me, so I take about 225mg daily.
I found a web-site about effexor before, I found it useful. Click on the link to find more information. But your therapist might suggest you something else, there are many anti-depressants.
Anyway heres the link if you like.
